  1. As a current serving member of the Australian Defence Force and having met some of our amazing veterans…I couldn’t agree more!

  2. I had never seen my granddad cry, not ever, not even at my dad’s funeral. When my Grandad talked of his war experiences it was always full of tales of high adventure, james bond like narrow escapes, and great mateship.
    Only once did i convince him to tell me the otherside… of the endless sense of desperation, of unrelenting loneliness, and immense fear. Of having to say goodbye to the mate who had saved your life, when you couldn’t save their’s.
    I am not sure who cried more at that point. I have never been prouder of the man who is my Grandad.
